Before you start
Mercor works more like a hiring marketplace than a task site. You apply to specific roles — often for professionals such as engineers, doctors, lawyers or researchers — and go through an AI-led interview and a domain assessment.
Have an up-to-date CV ready, a working camera and microphone, and a quiet, well-lit room. At the time of writing, members report weekly payouts by direct deposit or Wise, depending on country.

Step by step
Create your profile and upload your CV. Then browse roles and apply only to those where you genuinely meet the requirements. Each application usually leads to an AI video interview and, for many roles, a practical skills test.
Treat each role like a real job application: tailor your profile summary to it.

Your first contract
Roles are often project-based contracts with a defined scope. Read the contract terms, expected hours and pay rate carefully before accepting. Ask questions through the official channel if anything is unclear.
Quality expectations on expert projects are high. Reviewers look for depth, correctness and clear reasoning.
Common reasons people fail
Mercor's process is selective. Most rejections we hear about come from these.

Tips for beginners
Mercor is best suited to people with professional experience. If you are early in your career, a platform like Outlier or DataAnnotation is often a better first step. Come back to Mercor once you have a track record.
Tips for experienced contributors
Lead with the specific: named technologies, the size of systems you built, the clinical specialty you practise, the jurisdictions you work in. Vague seniority does not score well.
In the interview, walk through real examples with your reasoning. Say what you would do differently. Evaluators value judgement, not just knowledge.
