Before you start

Prolific connects participants with academic and industry research studies, including a growing number of AI-related studies. There is no skills test, but there is an identity check, and new sign-ups are sometimes put on a waitlist depending on country and demand.

It is only available in some countries. At the time of writing, members report payouts by PayPal above a small minimum.

Step by step

Sign up on the official website and complete identity verification. Then fill in the 'About you' screening questions honestly and completely — they decide which studies you are shown.

Studies appear in your dashboard. Many are short (a few minutes); some are longer or multi-part.

Your first studies

Read each study's description before you start. Give each question real attention. Studies include attention checks, and failing them can lead to your submission being rejected.

If you cannot finish a study, return it through the platform rather than abandoning it.

Common reasons people get rejected

A rejection affects your standing, so avoid these.

Tips for beginners

Studies come and go quickly. Checking a few times a day works better than waiting for a big batch. Treat it as a flexible extra, not a main income.

Tips for experienced contributors

Keep your screening answers current, especially occupation and skills. Specialist and AI-evaluation studies are often filtered by them and typically pay better per hour.
